General

What is Flowchef?

Flowchef is a workflow automation platform for teams that need reliable, production-ready automations. Build and monitor workflows with a visual drag-and-drop builder, and use lightweight code steps for simple data transforms when needed.

How is Flowchef different from Zapier?

Unlike Zapier which charges per task step, Flowchef uses run-based billing — one workflow execution counts as one run regardless of how many steps it has. A 10-step workflow costs the same as a 2-step workflow.

Is Flowchef available as open-source software?

Flowchef is offered as a managed SaaS platform. You can sign up and use it in the cloud without managing infrastructure.

Who is Flowchef for?

Flowchef is designed for individuals & businesses who need production-grade automation. If you've outgrown Zapier's limitations or want to avoid building custom integration code, Flowchef is for you.

Billing

What counts as a 'Run'?

A run is one complete execution of your workflow from trigger to final action. We only count successful runs towards your quota. Failed runs, test runs in the editor, and partial executions don't count.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes! You can cancel your subscription at any time from your platform settings. You'll retain access to your current plan features until the end of your billing cycle.

What happens if I exceed my run limit?

We'll send you a notification when you're approaching your limit. If you exceed it, your flows will pause until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade to a higher plan.

Do you offer refunds?

We offer a 14-day free trial on all paid plans. After the trial period, you are charged in full for the billing cycle and it's non-refundable, but you can cancel anytime to avoid future charges.

Is there a free plan?

Yes! Our Free plan includes 100 runs per month and 5 active flows. It's free forever with no credit card required.

Technical

Can I write custom code?

Flowchef supports lightweight code steps for basic transforms, field mapping, and conditional logic inside a flow. These steps are intentionally limited and best used for small data-shaping tasks.

What integrations do you support?

We support 200+ pre-built integrations including Slack, GitHub, Stripe, Salesforce, Google Sheets, PostgreSQL, OpenAI, and many more. Each integration uses OAuth for secure, one-click setup.

Is there an API?

Yes. Flowchef has a full REST API that lets you programmatically create, manage, and trigger workflows. You can also use webhooks as triggers for real-time event-driven automation.

How do webhooks work?

You can use webhooks as flow triggers — Flowchef generates a unique URL for each webhook trigger. When that URL receives a request, your flow executes immediately with the webhook payload as input data.

Security

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored on encrypted servers with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 for all data in transit. We use industry-standard cloud infrastructure with data centers in the US and EU.

What security measures do you have?

We implement defense-in-depth security: encrypted storage, isolated execution environments for each flow, role-based access control, audit logging, and regular security assessments. Each workflow runs in a sandboxed environment to prevent cross-tenant data access.

Getting Started

How do I create my first flow?

Sign up for a free account, then click 'New Flow' from your dashboard. Choose a trigger (like a webhook, schedule, or app event), add your action steps, and activate. Most users build their first automation in under 5 minutes.

Can I import flows from other tools?

We're working on import tools for Zapier and Make migrations. In the meantime, our visual builder makes it fast to recreate your existing automations with improved performance and lower cost.
